This presentation will cover how copyright works at its best (the “We Shall Overcome,” “Led Zeppelin,” and “Happy Birthday” decisions) and worst (the “Blurred Lines” decision), how rules of evidence should be changed to deter frivolous copyright lawsuits, demonstrate the best means by which a forensic musicologist can stop a meritless music copyright infringement lawsuit, what songwriters, publishers and lawyers can improve immediately in order to prevent or stop copyright cases, as well as a proposal for a new compulsory license for sampling sound recordings.
